Building a partscaster?
Assembling a parts guitar, despite what many say, is not just a "screw
it togther and head off to the gig" project. It does take time
and attention to many little details, the sum of which will be a guitar
that is a pleasure to play.
The basis for a succesful project guitar is quality hardware. If you
go cheap on parts, at the end of the job, you will find that you are
out of pocket for the cheap tuners or whatever as well as the quality
replacement parts you need to replace them with. It is cheaper to buy
quality first time around.
Get a quote a on a quality hardware pack. A complete kit including everything
down to a strap case and strings can be supplied or you may just want
to fill in the gaps. If you already have a body and neck, a hardware
only pack can be supplied.
Partscaster assembly
Got all or some of the parts and find you don't have the time, tools
or expertise to pull it off. Pack it all off and send it in. That bag
of bits will come back as a complete guitar assembled with a level of
care and attention to detail that will ensure it is a great player.
Partscaster disaster
See a few of these actually. the player has purchased the various bits
and assembled the guitar but she don't sing. I see quite a few that
have been put together by so called professional guitar techs and they
also have serious problems. An hour or so of work can usually turn alackluster
project guitar into a screaming monster.
Damaged instruments
Chances are, if you don't mess with it, damage can be repaired and in
many cases only an expert will be able to tell.
Best thing is to bring it in carefully wrapped up so as not to disturb
any breaks and get a quote on a repair job. |
