60's Lap Steel
This old girl has been around the block a few times thats for sure - its been relicced the real way
at some time during her long life an owner had mistreated her a bit as you will see in the pics

hard to know how old but i would say late 50's early 60's - it was made in japan, possibly a guya
it is in gooworking order although the rocker switches need some attention
the tuners are pretty good - the G is a little loose but holds tune ok

it has a beautiful transparent sweet tone to die for that sounds just like the lap steel tones of the 40's and 50's
put a little hair on it and you are in david linley territory - it does tend to squark with too much gain but you can hit the lellow spot with a valve amp like they used in those times maybe 10 to 15 watts - it sounds fabulous through a 5e3

looking for $350. more detailed pics here

Heavy Duty Stainless Neck Plates
Improve sustain and add tone to your sound. This solid 3mm stainless neckplate will allow more compression to be exerted on that crucial neck to body join. Many players and so called experts tell us that to get the best sustain you need a set neck. Research in my workshop has shown that this is hogwash. Many others will back me up on this hypotheseis. What I have found is this: Increasing the mass of the neck plate, using a stiffer and heavier material, allows extra compression to be exerted at the critcal neck to body joint. The extra compression, together with well mated surfaces allows a much more efficient transfer of resonant vibrations along the string, through the neck and body, creating a more resonant environment. This will improve tone and aid sustain. Fits "F" vintage style screw pattern

The reason more pressure can be exerted is because this neckplate will not deform like the cheap, soft neckplates supplied by fender and other major guitar factories. Just because it is a custom shop guitar doesn't mean the neckplate is made of high quality steel plate. They are all stamped out in the millions at a factory in the big C. This is an Aussie product made of quality australian brushed stainless steel.

It is recomended that before installing the HD SS neckplate, you remove the gunky bits of paper stuck to the heel of your neck and inside the neck pocket of your Fender style guitar. Ensure both neck pocket and neck heel are clean, smooth and mate well. This will allow maximum surface contact of the heel to the pocket. Once you have tensioned down the neck screws you will have a very tight union allowing maximum resonant transfer.

Surface of the plate is a brushed finish with slightly rounded top edges.

Made of Brushed 3mm #304 stainless steel

AMPS 'n CABS

Amwatts 5E3 clone
One of Mark Watsons superlative handwired masterpieces. Mercury Magnetics Transformer set, Eminence Red Fang alnico speaker. The handbuilt, fingerjointed pine cabinet is finished in vintage tweed. Built just like the originals but a little deeper for a big sound. This one was built in 2006 and signed by the man himself. Very smooth tone from the Red Fang, reputedly one of the loudest speakers you can get. Big rich bottom end and bell like tops with no hint of harshness.

The overdrive is creamy and smooth. Some enhancements have been made to the original 1959 circuit to bring up to current safety standards and to balance it to handle the pickups and effects of today. No sacrifices have been made to the tone.

This is as good as it gets unless you want to sell your house to buy an orignal.
Suitable for small to medium rooms unmiked.
Condish is very good to excellent. No scuffs or tears. A little clouding on the chrome on the control panel.

This amp is pure gold....

If you have been looking for a great sounding handwired 5e3 clone this is worth consodering. Hasn't had a lot of use as demonstrated by the tweed which is in pristine condition.

I will consider offers but I will be looking for a decent price on this one as I dont have another 5E3 in my collection at the moment.

A slice of melbourne's rock and roll history
A very collectable amp that was hand built at Boronia Hi Fi in Melbourne in the early to mid 60's has just come up for sale.
There are very few of these left that are still running - I doubt you will find an example of this one for sale at any price.
Gigworthy condiition. Some of the history of these amps including photos of the guys who used them back in the day here

Macpherson Mark iV

Built at Boronia Hi-Fi around 1965 this twin EL34 powered head has an output of around 60 very loud watts
the trannies are like bricks - this thing weighs a ton

fabulous 60's tone with miles of punch - add a pair 12 UEG's if you can find them or lorantz 12" 50watters [same factory, same paper recipe, same cone press] you have genuine
vintage tone - arpart from the collectibilty factor this is a very useful amp and is regularly used as a ggiging unit
condition is again excellent for an amp built 45 years ago - one of the side handles i missing
$1,100.00

there is some historical background on macpherson amps here with some pics of them in action back in the heyday of Melbourne's psychedelic pop scene

if you were at melbourne amp fest 2011 you would have heard his amp.

O'neill Amplification Deluxe [SOLD]
An amp with real tone. This amp is a true blue aussie. Chassis and circuitry by Mal O'neill [Qld], Speaker by Lorantz [Vic], Cabinet by Carlton Guitars.

This is a low power amp pushing around 18 watts [pretty damn loud actually]. It runs very quietly and is ideal for recording. It is based on the late 50's 5E3 circuit and includes some very useable mods. Nice even volume sweep, unlike the old 5E3 where all the volume was between 1 and 3. Also it can accomodate unmatched power valves. [6v6]. Point to point hand wired circuitry housed in a handbuilt dovtailed pine cabinet. Speaker is the Lorantz 50watt Greenback clone which is a high power version of the highly regarded vintage Rola 12PEG. In fact it is from the same factory using the same molds and paper recipes as the original.

Tone is warm and clear with excellent detail, As the volume advances beyond 12 oclock a deliciously smooth overdrive is evident becoming quite raunchy by the time it is dimed. The two chanels can be jumpered and mixed to taste.

Price $1200.00
